“Many great things depend - don't forget it - on whether you and I live our lives as God wants.” (Saint Josemaria).

Mercy (Safia Latif)
Mercy (Safia Latif)

There is something that I must do.  I do not know what it is but I know that there is some ting that I must do in this lifetime.

Perhaps I have done it already?  Perhaps I have not done it at all?  Maybe what God wants from me is something that I can do that the world will see and know about?  Maybe I am supposed to be a soul remembered long after I have died – there are Saints and sinners who we study in history to understand what they did and why.  Perhaps I am one of these (though I doubt it)?  Perhaps what I am required to do is something very small and secret?  Maybe I am supposed to pray a particular prayer to give glory to God quietly in a way that nobody will ever know or hear about?  Maybe I am supposed to be the mother of my children and through them, God will accomplish His Holy Will?

The list is endless, but it is important.  I often think about it – not because I am some great saint – for as much as I wish I were I am too riddled with sin to be considered a saint, but I think of it because this is my reason for being alive.

God allowed my soul to be formed in my mother’s womb because He had some purpose for me.  This is why the sin of abortion is such a terrible sin.  When we terminate the life of an unborn child we are trying to prevent the Holy Will of God from fruition…

And God depends on each soul for some purpose, whether we understand that purpose or not…

“Now when he rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene... they would not believe it. After this he appeared in another form to two of them, as they were walking into the country... but they did not believe them. Afterward he appeared to the eleven themselves as they sat at table; and he upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they had not believed those who saw him after he had risen. And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation.’” (Mark 16:9-15).Christ was sad when the apostles did not believe the witnesses to His resurrection.  And so, first He berated them, and then He sent them out.  They had work to do!  Saint Josemaria said, “Many great things depend - don't forget it - on whether you and I live our lives as God wants.”

And it is with this in mind that I continue to wonder whether I am doing the thing that I was born to do.  After all, “many great things depend” on that!

For with prayer, I stand on Holy Ground where everything is clear. Here. At the Foot of the Cross.
