Family
He THIRST. He thirst on that Cross and I ignore Him and pretend that I have no idea why…
The other day we had a very challenging morning as a family.
Someone in our family was struggling with their day and their emotions and as a result they were completely overwhelmed and unable to proceed in their day in a reasonable manner.
After a few hours of various silly things, we finally got things under control again… And then we needed to think about all the events of the morning.
You see, it was only one person in the family who was hurting and the hurt of that one person caused hurt and inconvenience for everyone.
That one person’s hurt allowed them to (incorrectly) justify their behaviour that had resulted in hurt to others around them. And this meant that other people n the family needed to practice forgiveness and understanding and compassion. This meant that the person who had been upset also needed to practice humility and ask for forgiveness from those who he upset.
This is all a normal part of being in a normal family – though I must admit that while we are in the thick of it so to speak, I very often think we must all be a little crazy and the only ones on the planet who are crazy! And yet, I was thinking about this today because I am a Catholic, which means that I am part of a broader family. And my Spiritual Family is very important. You see, I am not able to call the hurt of another something separate from me. As one of God’s children, I am unable to ignore God and His wishes. And God wishes that all of His children be saved. That is why the Father ran to embrace the prodigal son. That is why the Shepherd went after the lost sheep. And that is why Christ instituted the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
All of that is why God is so focused on Mercy when He has every right to focus only on justice. Because God wants all of us to be okay. He does not want to save person A and roast person B. He does not want to protect person A and destroy person B. He did not make some good people and some bad ones. He made everything GOOD – that is what we hear about in Genesis. And that means that we are being asked to remain faithful to our God and to listen to Him. Because that is the way that we ca be saved.
And I have been thinking about that today, because I do not spend enough time looking after my family – my spiritual family. And today, it seems to me that the only way to please my Beloved, is to bring Him souls… For He THIRST. He thirst on that Cross and I ignore Him and pretend that I have no idea why…
He thirsts for my family – all of us… My poor poor God!
