Rest

I am safe with Him. I am protected with Him. I have nothing to fear with Him. For He hides rainbows in my rain clouds, and I need to thank Him for that…

There is so much that I should do to please my Beloved. Sometimes I have a whole list sorted in my head of all the things that I will do to please Him. I wake up in the morning and lie in bed with a whole plan of the ways that I will please my Beloved and before my feet even touch the ground, I have managed to sin three or four times.
If I had to rely on myself and my own volition, I would be completely overcome. After all, I am very very weak. I have no ability to hold myself to account or to maintain any sort of sinless behaviour. Christ said to Saint Faustina in a vision of Him, “I am immensely pleased with your firm resolution to become a saint. I bless your efforts and will give you opportunities to sanctify yourself. Be watchful that you lose no opportunity that My providence offers you for sanctification. If you do not succeed in taking advantage of an opportunity, do not lose your peace, but humble yourself profoundly before Me and, with great trust, immerse yourself completely in My mercy. In this way, you gain more than you have lost, because more favour is granted to a humble soul than the soul itself asks for...” (Diary,1361).
And I have been reflecting on this as it applies to my own life. You see, there are so many trials in my life that cause me great distress. So often I am worried and panicked about things that are – with hindsight – so insignificant that I am shocked that I ever wasted a moment’s thought on them when I reflect on them with the passing of time.
Saint Josemaria would pray, “Oh, Jesus! I rest in you.” (The Way, 732). And I have been reflecting on what that really means. After all we can rest by lying down on a couch and thinking quietly of all the things that are worrying us – but that is no real rest. Or, we can rest by closing our eyes as Saint Joseph did – and going to sleep completely secure in God’s Will to protect us…
I am a child of God. And what that really means is that God is looking after me as a Father does for a child. And He is a perfect Father, which means that He does not grow impatient or forgetful. He is overly concerned with His own affairs, thereby forgetting me. His love is not imperfect as my love is imperfect. He does not have a bad day or a tired day or a day where He grows restless as I do.
I am safe with Him. I am protected with Him. I have nothing to fear with Him. For He hides rainbows in my rain clouds, and I need to thank Him for that…
For with prayer, I stand on Holy Ground where everything is clear. Here. At the Foot of the Cross.
