If I simply accept the Holy Will of God, I will not get in His way…
I recently read the private revelations of the life of the Holy Family, which were written by the medieval Spanish nun, Blessed Agreda, and which were published from her writings in “The Mystical City of God”. This nun, whose body has remained incorrupt for hundreds of years, was able to translocate and was instrumental (through her translocation) in the conversion of the Ancient Inca population, as she translocated to them and taught them to pray the rosary years before the missionary priests reached them.
Importantly, the Catholic Church has NOT ratified these revelations, but that does not mean that these revelations have been rejected. Instead, the Church teaches that Catholics can choose to believe the information contained in these revelations (or not) as “private revelations” rather than dogma of the Catholic Church.
I found this book very informative and beautiful. In the revelations made to Blessed Mary of Agreda, Our Lady explains that the fall of Lucifer (the devil) was caused because he saw God’s plan for Our Lady (as God is outside of time and place, which means that God sees everything at once). God chose to reveal the fall of humanity and the Sacrifice of God the Son on the Cross and the Coronation of Our Lady as Queen of Heaven. And seeing all of this, the Evil One was jealous that a mere human soul would be elevated above his angelic soul as he believed that he should be higher in heaven. Therefore, his sin of pride caused him to rebel against God and reject God’s holy will, and in choosing to reject God’s Holy Will, the Evil One damned himself to hell and then began to prowl the earth looking for Our Lady so that he could cause her fall...
Interestingly, the revelations claim that the Evil One thought that Eve (in the Garden of Eden) was Our Lady (because although he knew God’s plan, he did not know the time or place in which things would occur). Seeing Eve in the Garden, the Evil One chose to tempt her and not Adam, because he mistakenly believed that Adam was Christ and therefore God and too powerful for him. This is why we call the Blessed Virgin the NEW EVE and Christ the NEW ADAM, because they succeeded where Adam and Eve failed. However, when Eve fell, all Lucifer did was set in motion the day when Our Lady would crush him.
And I have been reflecting on that today. You see, the Evil One brought about his own destruction simply because he believed that he knew better than God. In fact, if he had simply followed the Holy Will of God, he would not have tempted Eve, she would not have sinned by eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, she would not have tempted Adam, and humanity would not have fallen. And if humanity had not fallen, then there would be no Blessed Virgin to Crush the Head of the serpent and the Evil One would not have to contend with the soul of the Blessed Virgin being exulted above his own.
And I have been thinking about that today, as I struggle against all the things that God gives me. Because it occurs to me, that if I simply accept the Holy Will of God, I will not get in His way…
