He should be the object of or desire since He, the all-beautiful One, loves repulsive people so that He might make them beautiful. Let us run to Him and cry out for Him.” (Saint Augustine).

On this night, the Lord of the Universe and the King of the World was judged.  The JUST JUDGE was judged.

I have been reflecting on that today.  You see, it is shocking in the most unbelievable way to consider that God was judged.

I am imagining the insult to Our Blessed Lord.  I am imagining how His Divine Intellect could have consented – with PERFECT humility – to the judgement of sinful men.  And it was not actually just judgement.  It was terrible unjust judgement.  There were false witnesses.  There were liars who committed perjury.  And nobody spoke for the Son of Man.  Nobody stood up and defended Him.  Nobody tried to help Him.  Instead – in the dead of night, when all these evil things were being done – that was when Christ was left alone.

I can imagine Him standing there – He who COULD pass judgement.  And I can imagine Him silently consenting to this injustice.  I am imagining the loneliness in that moment.  After all, the Holy Trinity were not TOGETHER during the Passion and Death of Our Blessed Lord.  That was the one moment in history where the Son had to rely on FAITH ALONE to know the Love of the Father and the Holy Spirit, because He could NOT feel Them with Him.

It was for this terrible loneliness that the angels weep.  For it is my sin that caused my Blessed Lord to suffer such isolation…  When Christ offered Himself as a sacrifice for my sins, He did so knowing that He would feel the loneliness of isolation – standing alone and in that place.  He knew that He would be tried by seven unjust judges.  He knew that He would suffer for that and that He would remain silent.

And I have been reflecting on that tonight – during the silence…  For it seems that we each reach this understanding of Our Blessed Lord in our own way.  And in the words of Saint Augustine in “Sermon on John” on page 112, “We know we are traveling together. If our pace is slow, go on ahead of us. We will not envy you but rather will seek to catch up with you. However, if you consider us capable of a quicker pace, run along with us. There is only one goal, and we are all anxious to reach it – some at a slow pace and others at a fast pace. (Sermon on a New Canticle) Prayer: Let everyone's sighs be uttered in longing for Christ. He should be the object of or desire since He, the all-beautiful One, loves repulsive people so that He might make them beautiful. Let us run to Him and cry out for Him.”

And tonight, as my soul weeps for all I have done to cause the suffering of my Blessed Lord, I run to Him and cry out to Him.  For He is my love…

For with prayer, I stand on Holy Ground where everything is clear. Here. At the Foot of the Cross.
