“‘What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.’” (Luke 4:37).

Christ is Love (Unknown)
Christ is Love (Unknown)

We are told in the Scriptures that Christ is the WORD of GOD.

We are NOT told that Christ is speaking the words of God.  We are not told that Christ is living the words of God.  We are not told that Christ is a good representative or symbol or example of the words of God.  We are clearly and explicitly today that Christ is IN FACT the WORD OF GOD!

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)…

And this is significant, because it means that Christ as God is TRUTH – universal and unmoving in the same way that “Yahweh” is God – “I AM” – universal and unmoving…

For God made the world from His WORD.  God’s WORD is His power…  “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)…

Here, we are told explicitly of how God is Christ and Christ is God and they are one in the Trinity – since the BEGINNING….

And Christ – as the WORD – has power…

“A man who had the spirit of an unclean demon cried out with a loud voice, ‘Ah! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.’ But Jesus rebuked him, saying, ‘Be silent, and come out of him!’ And when the demon had thrown him down in the midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm. And they were all amazed and said to one another, ‘What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.’” (Luke 4:31-37).

When the people asked by what authority the unclean spirits were commanded by Christ’s word, what they failed to understand was that Christ’s WORD was equal to the WORD OF GOD.  And in that equality, He is able to direct not only the unclean spirits, but the clean ones – and EVERYTHIGN ELSE in the universe as well.

And that makes me think of the miracle of the Passion and Death of Christ even more.  You see, since Christ is able to CREATE whatever He choses as God (and the Word of God) then that means that Christ is also able to come down from the Cross without any hero to save Him.  And in fact, the ability of Christ to remain on that Cross until death – despite having the power to free Himself from it – holding on to His own power by sheer (perfect) human determination – means that Christ is able to hold His finger in the fire without flinching…

And when I really stop and think about the power of God and His willingness to control that power through His pure human will and discipline and LOVE for me, I am overcome.  For how can a soul such a mine ever repay such a debt as that…?

For with prayer, I stand on Holy Ground where everything is clear. Here. At the Foot of the Cross.
