Change

Saint Therese of Lisieux practiced her little way, which was to make herself like a child for God so that He would direct her and guide her as a Father does for His child.

One thing that is unchangeable is that all things change.
It is a fact universally acknowledged that in this world nothing stays the same. When I was a young girl we did things in one way and now the world is entirely different. There was no internet widely used for example, when I was very young. I still remember when mobile phones were first invented, I know what the world was like without Google and Facebook.
When I was a young girl thing ran very much slower than they do today. Even when the internet became widely used, it began with dial up and we would sit and wait for the internet connection to be established prior to using our files or emails online. Back in those early days I was very focused on trying to get things done efficiently, but that meant time sitting at a desk and preparing files and documents. These days I can email from my phone, have internet in my back pocket, and my children have never used an encyclopedia in their lives!
And I have been thinking about this today as I have been thinking about many things, because it is not necessarily true to say that change is a good thing. Some changes are not for the better. Is it true to say that the changes to the speed at which we operate are necessarily good changes. Perhaps things were better for families in the days when things ran more slowly?
And faith is a bit like this as well.
When I was a little child, I was able to have very strong faith. I had enough strength to be able to believe in God without wavering. I thought that if I was scared, I could ask God to help me. I thought that if I was happy, I could thank God unreservedly. I knew that God wanted to be with me in Heaven and would make a way for me to be good and join Him there.
Now, as I have grown older and changed, I am less secure in my belief. I am less confident that I will be able to make things happen in a good or easy manner. I put my own lived experiences into the things that I am doing, and I find it more difficult to change,
And I have been reflecting on that today as I have been thinking about my future. You see, if I continue to change – in the wrong direction – I shall simply take myself further and further away from God. And my goal should always be to grow closer to my Beloved – not further from Him.
Saint Therese of Lisieux practiced her little way, which was to make herself like a child for God so that He would direct her and guide her as a Father does for His child...
And I have been thinking about that today as I have been thinking about change. For it seems I have changed too much and not in the right ways!
For with prayer, I stand on Holy Ground where everything is clear. Here. At the Foot of the Cross.
