Saviour

I pray today for the Grace of God through the intercession of Saint Joseph – for he is the Saviour of the Saviour and for that all of humanity must have cause to dance for joy!

The soul of Christ was entrusted to the Blessed Virgin.
This does not mean nothing. This is a huge deal and has very significant meaning…
You see, God asked the Blessed Virgin to give flesh to God the Son. This is a very big ask. It means that God knew that He would be beholden to the Blessed Virgin – and not in a small way. Her flesh – her very DNA made Him and then afterwards, her body fed Him and her mind – as the mind of most new mothers – was consumed by His every need. She tended to his eating and drinking and sleeping and playing and cleanliness. She was available for kisses and cuddles and help in every single way. She was chosen for her beauty and humility. For, after all, it would take a perfectly humble soul to allow God – the Creator of the Universe – to be beholden to them and NOT become a crazy power-hungry maniac…
This role of the Blessed Virgin is very well known. And because of her sacrifice to God, she has been rewarded in Heaven. Her sacrifice was so great that God was able to make her the QUEEN OF HEAVEN in recompense of the sacrifice that she made.
But there is another soul who could be called the Saviour of the Saviour. And that is Saint Joseph.
In today’s world it is very easy to imagine that it is no big deal for a woman to have a man as a protector in her life. It can be easy enough to imagine – in a world where there are so many single mothers – that the father figure in the home is perhaps not even essential to the safety and protection of the family.
And yet, this was not the case twenty centuries ago. During the time of Christ, a family without a father – or adult male – was without protections. They could not earn money and could not fit in within society. They were destined to spend their lives at the outskirts of society, and without protection, they could become the victims of terrible injustice ranging from extreme poverty to total exploitation…
Thus, the role of Saint Joseph is particularly important. You see, he was the person tasked with protecting the treasures of God – God the Son and His holy mother, the Blessed Virgin. Saint Joseph twice had to take the Child and His mother and flee the wrath of Herod. He had to work to provide for the family in a foreign land, away from the family they expected to see. When they had travelled the Bethlehem, they were expecting a quick trip. Presumably they left their things behind. In the end it was a mad rush to Egypt – flight in the middle of the night to keep the family safe.
“When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. ‘Get up,’ he said, ‘take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.’” (Matthew 2:13).
What a holy man to be entrusted with such a cargo… And what a cargo to follow where he led without question…
And I pray today for the Grace of God through the intercession of Saint Joseph – for he is the Saviour of the Saviour and for that all of humanity must have cause to dance for joy!
For with prayer, I stand on Holy Ground where everything is clear. Here. At the Foot of the Cross.
