Patience

God does not make mistakes or have regrets or get it wrong.  Because God is infinite patience.

Hail Mary (Jen Norton)

I am not a patient person.  Pretty much every single time I get myself into trouble it is because I lose patience with a situation and act in a way that I later – with calm hindsight – regret.

When I was a little girl, my year five teacher (may God rest her soul) used to call me a “bull in a China shop”.  She constantly called me to slow down and take care.  She constantly called me to settle down a little bit and slow down and take care.

And I have been thinking about that today.

You see, God is infinite patience and the Evil One is not.

In the Garden of Eden the woman, Eve, was tempted to sin – not the man, Adam.  I recently read a book of revelations to the Venerable Mary Agreda, who was a Medieval Spanish nun whose body remains uncorrupted, who experienced visions of the Blessed Mother and the Holy Family.  In her revelations, Venerable Mary Agreda noted that the Evil One knew that God had a plan to create a perfect woman who would be the Queen of Heaven because time and space do not exist in Heaven and this means that in the moment of creation, God knew exactly how He would be betrayed and how He would save humanity.  This means that He anticipated the creation of the Blessed Virgin from the birth of creation.  Now, Lucifer was the head of the angels and he was jealous of the future status of the Blessed Virgin and the love of God for her, and this was the reason that he rebelled against God’s will and was cast into Hell.

Now, according to the revelations, Lucifer thought that Eve was that perfect woman – the Blessed Virgin.  He also thought that Adam was God the Son.  It was for this reason that he understood the power of God and did not bother tempting Adam in the Garden of Eden and instead tempted Eve – thinking a mere human soul would fall.

And though Eve’s soul did fall through sin, the Blessed Virgin’s soul did not.

And the part of this story that resonates with me is the impatience of the Evil One compared with the infinite patience of God.

The Evil One thought that God would act on His plans immediately – through the FIRST man and woman created.  Instead, God waited tens of thousands of years to implement His plan.

And I have been thinking about the patience that required of God – who waited for the RIGHT time (for me and for you too) to create the Virgin and become Man.  For if He did not wait for these things, God would have made a terrible mistake and the Church would not have been born.  And God does not make mistakes or have regrets or get it wrong.  Because God is infinite patience.

And I have been reflecting on that today as I have been thinking about Eve and the Blessed Virgin.  For I feel that I must pray for the Grace of the patience of God and the Blessed Virgin – for it is only through patience that I shall sin a bit less…

For with prayer, I stand on Holy Ground where everything is clear. Here. At the Foot of the Cross.
